Miley Cyrus has kicked off BBC Radio 1’s 2020 Live Lounge Month performing her new single “Midnight Sky”, “Slide Away”, a cover of Billie Eilish’s “my future”, as well as an extra cover of “Take It To The Limit” by The Eagles.
33. MILEY CYRUS – Billboard’s “100 Greatest Music Video Artists of All Time”
Why She’s a Video Icon: Miley has managed to make headlines with nearly every music video she drops — especially when one ushers in a new look — simultaneously inspiring spoofs and Halloween outfits for years to come.
The MTV Classic: The shocking, Terry Richardson-directed “Wrecking Ball” stands as the quite possibly only hammer-licking music video around — and proved that, if you’re Miley, you can still do the most while wearing the least.
Worth YouTubing: The video for the foreshadowing track “Can’t Be Tamed,” in which the pop star literally breaks free from her cage, serves as air-tight proof that (as Miley claims a decade later on her latest single) she was born to run. — L.H.
NME “The slinky #MidnightSky sees Miley Cyrus channel her inner Prince, and it results in a synth-pop smasher.”
The Guardian “See my lips on her mouth, everybody’s talking now,” muses 2013’s most wanted on this disco-tinged, post-divorce banger. The Milky Milky Milk hitmaker sounds suitably refreshed after the double-meh of 2017’s country singer rebirth and last year’s, erm, Cattitude. Midnight Sky is everything all that wasn’t: impassioned, energised and delivered by someone brave enough to sport a platinum-blonde mullet.
“In honor of my Mammies funeral #Mammie4Evr limited tees are up on shop.Mileycyrus.com….” Miley tweeted out, Monday. She promises to donate a portion of profits to a Tennessee community group meant to help children stay in school. The organization is a tribute to Loretta Finely’s preschool teaching career and college graduation at 70-years-old.
“Mammie,” as Cyrus affectionately called her, was a fan favorite, many times accompanying the 27-year-old Pop star to red carpet events while sporting an enlarged pair of fierce transition shades. It’s that image of Loretta throwing up a peace sign that christens the shirt’s front side. The back displays a rallying cry “MAMMIE 4EVR.”
Over the weekend, Miley shared emotional tributes to her grandmother on Instagram. “Even though you are gone…. NOTHING has or ever will change. You will FOREVER be my inspiration and fashion icon,” the caption reads. “Even more than that, the ultimate model of being a true LIGHT in a dark world. You are sunshine.”
Miley Cyrus has marked seven years since the release of her hit single ‘Wrecking Ball’.
The pop megastar took to Instagram to share a clip of the viral music video for the track, which saw her swinging across the room on a giant wrecking ball in the nude, and admitted it “feels like a lifetime ago” that she put it out.
She wrote: “7 years of Wrecking Ball. My concept of time is completely askew. Feels like a lifetime ago… but somehow only yesterday. Thank you for all the support you gave me then and of course the love you’re continuing to show my art today. Forever grateful & inspired. (sic)”
The single was taken from Miley’s fourth LP, 2013’s ‘Bangerz’, and she later admitted she regretted the song and the promo.
The ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’ hitmaker confessed that she would hate for it to be played at her funeral.
Speaking in 2017, she quipped: “Swinging around naked on a wrecking ball lives forever. I am never living that down.
“I will always be the naked girl on a wrecking ball, no matter how much I frolic with Emu [her dog] I am always the naked girl on the wrecking ball.
“I should have thought of how long that was going to follow me around.
“It’s my worst nightmare, that song being played at my funeral — that is my worst nightmare.”
Meanwhile, Miley recently dropped the lead single, ‘Midnight Sky’, from her upcoming seventh studio album.
The popular track is the biggest radio song of her career.
She reacted: “Back in the studio and just heard that Midnight Sky is having the biggest radio add week of my CAREER and it’s #1 most added at Pop and Hot AC.
“Every radio programmer who added [my song] is rad as f*** and everyone who didn’t, well….. (sic)”
It looks like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion may be on their way to their first No. 1 in the U.K. with “WAP,” though so far the cut hasn’t been able to put a stop to one track’s month-long run atop the chart. Will it be able to do so next time around? It’s impossible to say…but it will surely be a tight race.
Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s U.K. singles chart.
No. 2 – Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion – “WAP”
No. 15 – Miley Cyrus – “Midnight Sky” Miley Cyrus has officially kicked off the next era of her career with new single “Midnight Sky,” which begins its time on the U.K. songs ranking at No. 15. The tune is now her eighteenth top 40 in the country and her first of 2020. The cut precedes her forthcoming album She Is Miley Cyrus, which doesn’t yet have a release date.
Last week, the one and only Miley Cyrus dropped her brand new single “Midnight Sky”. To celebrate the release, this weekend Miley is donating* $1 for every Postmates order placed using a special code to an organization close to Miley’s heart, My Friend’s Place.
My Friend’s Place is a nonprofit resource center that assists homeless youth, providing services to over 1,400 homeless aged 12–25 every year. Working out of their resource center located in Hollywood, My Friend’s Place offers programs that provide drop-in services including food and clothing, educational programs and employment readiness services, health and wellbeing services, crisis care, and more.
In addition to the donation, last night Miley and Postmates teamed up with Alfred Coffee to make a special midnight delivery to Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital in LA, feeding hundreds of essential workers in the COVID-19 unit.
Even though I’m excited about putting out new music into the world, I haven’t forgotten that we’re still battling Covid-19 and how the pandemic is continuing to affect so many people’s lives, especially our frontline workers across the country working tirelessly to serve our communities. To thank some of our healthcare heroes in LA, I’ve teamed up with Postmates and Feed Hero Nurses to donate Alfred coffee to midnight shift nurses at MLK Hospital in LA and I want my fans to join in as well. I’m asking you to nominate a midnight hero – tag them below/DM me for a chance to win a midnight snack on me.
