The show must go on.

While things certainly looked different at the iHeartRadio Music Festival this year, Miley Cyrus‘ performance was as big, bright and exciting as ever. While chatting with Elvis Duran after her killer set, the 27-year-old pop star opened up about taking the stage without an audience and why music is so important during these strange, uncertain times. “I think it’s giving us that pop escapism and some normalcy,” Miley said of the iHeartRadio Music Festival. She even joked that she hopes her performance this year, being so over the top, makes everybody watching feel like things are temporarily back to normal.

One thing that’s not so normal for Miley? Performing on stage without any fans in the audience. “At a concert, the artist comes second and the crowd comes first,” Miley told Elvis. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss that. I don’t love this. I miss my fans. The virtual wall isn’t enough for me. It’s not,” she said, though she praised all the hard work that goes into making a music festival happen safely during a pandemic. In the best of times, Miley says, we all want to be “sweaty, packed in, and in Vegas” when we go see music live.

This isn’t the first time Miley has performed at the iHeartRadio Music Festival over the last 10 years. The reason she keeps coming back is for the eclectic lineup. Speaking with Elvis, Miley says she doesn’t feel like she’s a “genre-specific artist” so it’s fun for her to perform here alongside artists like BTSBon JoviMigos and more.

Miley and Elvis took time out of their music chat to speak about the upcoming presidential election. Miley’s been using her voice and platform to remind her fans to vote. “Changes need to be made and they don’t happen without our attention or activism,” Miley said. This past year showed us we “need unity and to put our differences aside” and do what is best “not only for the care of our own country, but for the world.” The best way to do that is by voting.

In case you missed it, or just want to re-live all of the epic performances from this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival, tune in to the two-night highlights special on The CW on September 27 and 28 from 8-10pm ET/PT.

Niall Horan is an enormous Miley Cyrus fan and has shown his appreciation of her latest track, ‘Midnight Sky’, by covering it using piano and guitar and his dreamy voice on Instagram live, much to fans’ delight.

The 27-year-old is open about his massive love for Miley’s music, talking and posting about her often, and whilst chilling on live in his lounge, he decided to give his own little rendition.

Niall said: “I’ll tell you what song I’m absolutely obsessed with at the moment, is Midnight Sky.”

He began to play the chords and sing along to the chorus, and fans in the comment section was loving how much the former One Direction star was piling on praise for Miley.

Fans wrote, “he’s obsessed with Miley” and “such a fan” and if he’s chosen to stan anyone, we must say he’s chosen well.

Only last week did he praise Miley on Twitter for a performance she gave of the song, getting a message back from the lady herself with a kiss emoji.

We can’t help but let our imaginations run away with us and wonder what a collaboration between the duo would sound like.

Miley Cyrus called the upcoming 2020 presidential election the most important in her lifetime as she encouraged her fans to get active in the voting process.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer dropped in for an appearance on Nova 96.9’s “Fitzy & Wippa” radio show, where she discussed her life amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hosts asked her about the upcoming election and whether or not she plans to use her platform to advocate for any political causes.

“Listen, I’m 27… and I know I’ve never experienced an election this important before and I’m not sure that I ever will again. I hope not in my lifetime,” she explained.

She said that, above all, she’s hoping that the troubling times Americans find themselves in will motivate the public, especially young people, to get active and ensure that everyone around them is prepared to vote in November.

“I can’t express the importance enough, especially of young people, of getting out there and being active and making sure that their friends, their families are voting and have their information,” Cyrus explained. “Whether it’s mailing in, the state of our country right now, the hate, the pain. It’s just crucial that we get out there and make changes and we have someone fit for the job running our country.”

Although the “Midnight Sky” songstress believes America is at its “rock bottom,” she’s felt encouraged to see the youth of America doing so much.

“I think young people are really stepping up to the plate, really taking charge and getting mobilized,” she said. “I think it’s also the dedication working and advocating tirelessly. I really think so. I think that it’s kind of rock bottom here right now. So I think this is a desperate time and that’s when people really step up.”

However, she won’t let herself get complacent.

“I don’t believe in ‘Don’t worry be happy,’ I believe that worry is healthy,” she added. “Worry is why we are washing our hands, wearing our masks, keeping our distance.”

“I believe in realism and not saying everything is going to be OK,” she concluded.

At the end of July, Billie Eilish released her latest song “my future,” and just recently, Miley Cyruscovered a track for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. And if you’ve ever wondered what both artists would sound like singing the song together, look no further, because one fan on Twitter has taken care of that for all of us.

Twitter fan account @MileyNation13 made a mashup of Billie performing “My Future,” with Miley’s performance of the song, and the result is gorgeous.

The mashup caught the eye of Miley Cyrus and during a recent interview on UK radio station Capital FM, she called it “really, really cool.” She said, “Someone actually did this with Billie. Someone put her version with mine. I’m taking the lower octave and she’s singing up in that nice head voice, falsetto. It’s really, really cool.”

Check out the Miley/Billie (Millie?) mashup below.

Of course, we can only hope that Miley and Billie can get together one day and perform this live as a duet (or any song, really). In fact, after Cyrus had performed the song on Live Lounge, Billie sent her a beautiful flower arrangement with a sweet note that said, “Thank you for your sweet cover of ‘my future’! Hopefully we can meet soon when all of this is over.” Miley responded to the gesture by tweeting, “ROCKSTAR @billieeilish COMING THRU WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOUQUET EVVVVVVEEEER! MADE MY F***ING DAY! APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR ART!”

Miley is getting ready to drop her new album She Is Miley Cyrus, which she has already given fans a taste of via her song “Midnight Sky.” Earlier this year during an Australian Radio interview, the singer said the project has some rock and roll with “Joan Jett vibes.” She’s also worked with star producers like Mark Ronson, Max Martin and Andrew Watt.

Seated on a jewel toned art deco chair, strike that, throne, on top a white pedestal in front of a pitch black backdrop, Miley Cyrus joined RADIO.COM to talk music, the impact of her influence, and shared the best advice her dad Billy Ray Cyrus has given her about songwriting.

Chatting with Boston’s Mix 104.1 Karson and Annie, Miley expressed, “I think all of us are looking for ways to get creative with our environments right now… to bring some entertainment and some fun in a time where we’re all looking for a little bit of that.”

Well she ain’t wrong, if there’s one thing we’re definitely not concerned about, it’s being entertained by Miley. After joking about Karson’s summer dad shirt, with Miley contributing the genius pun of “summertime dad-ness” (obsessed with that and her), the conversation shifted to Miley’s upcoming album, She Is Miley Cyrus and her most recent single “Midnight Sky.”

Karson praised MC for sounding the best she ever has on her newest track, saying “it’s probably the best song you’ve ever released,” adding, “it just felt really in the pocket.” Miley pointed out that her main focus has been her music, “that’s why in the visual… I wanted to have my microphone, it’s very anti-gimmick… which has been such a big part of my storytelling.” Her aim with “Midnight Sky” was to “bring it back centered, to focus on the music.”

Speaking of focusing on the music, Karson was interested in Miley’s writing process, asking her to walk, or rather talk us through what it’s like for her. Miley’s writing process for “Midnight Sky,” was a little different than with previous songs, admitting to writing the song in two parts, “one part of it is like experience, and kinda knowing I wanted to control that own narrative.” And then on the other hand, when it actually came time to put lyrics to paper, as a self-proclaimed autobiographical writer, she tangled with accepting the surrealism of what she was referencing and being okay with the fantasy of it all, since scenarios of “dancing under disco balls” and going out is just simply, “not our normal right now.”

Annie took a moment to let Miley know just how much her music brings people together, sharing a personal story proving just that, then expressed her admiration for Miley. Even through all her different evolutions, the one thing that has always remained consistent is that she uses her voice for people that don’t necessarily have one as loud as hers.

For Miley, and her family, that has always been a priority, but it wasn’t until after her notorious 2013 VMA performance that, “I realized how much attention could be on me for such a silly reason, I mean I was a sexy bear.” It really opened her eyes, she realized the power of her platform, and knew it had to be used for a greater purpose.

While it might not seem like it, Miley is methodical when it comes to her career, and right now her main concern is making music and content that is timeless, and not “just that at home 2020 period.” She referred to a letter her father Billy Ray once wrote her, in it he said, “Don’t think outside the box, there is no box.” Which in retrospect makes a whole lotta sense when you look at Miley’s career.

She also shared the best advice her father gave her about making music and creating a song, which is to “stay aware of who’s coming up, what’s new, don’t get to comfortable, don’t be scared to collaborate.”

Besides obviously being inspired by her famous father, Miley spoke about how her godmother Dolly Parton, “is an influence on every element of my being.” From professional matters, to personal, as an activist and humanitarian, Dolly has imparted her wisdom on Miley, for which she is beyond appreciative, saying, “you know when they say don’t meet your heroes… unless it’s Dolly Parton. Because she’s better in real life.”

Additionally, Miley talked about working with Billy Idol and performing at Glastonbury, as well as focusing on each single giving it its rightful attention before releasing her album, and even made time to answer fan question.
