Miley Cyrus’ rock-flavored new album Plastic Hearts becomes her first entry on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart, debuting at No. 1 on the list dated Dec. 12.

Plastic Hearts bows with 60,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Dec. 3, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Of that sum, 20,000 units are from album sales.

Cyrus is the fourth solo woman to lead Top Rock Albums in 2020, following Fiona Apple (Fetch the Bolt Cutters, May 2), Hayley Williams(Petals for Armor, May 23) and Alanis Morissette (Such Pretty Forks in the Road (Aug. 15). That’s the most solo women at No. 1 in a single year since 2012, when five women (Lana Del Rey, Apple, Morissette, Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt) led.

On the all-format Billboard 200, Plastic Hearts opens at No. 2, Cyrus’ best rank since one-week ruler Bangerz in October 2013. In that span, she accrued two No. 5s with Younger Now (October 2017) and the She Is Coming EP (June 2019).

Concurrently, seven songs from Plastic Hearts reach the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, led by the title track, which starts at No. 8 with 3.7 million U.S. streams and 2,000 downloads.

Others joining “Plastic Hearts”: “Night Crawling,” featuring Billy Idol (No. 12), “WTF Do I Know” (No. 13), “Gimme What I Want” (No. 16),” “High” (No. 18, as well as No. 14 on Hot Alternative Songs) and “Bad Karma,” featuring Joan Jett (No. 19). Additionally, Cyrus’ cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie” from the album’s digital and streaming edition re-enters at No. 26.

“Night Crawling” and “Bad Karma” mark rock charts veterans Idol and Jett’s first appearances on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, which began in 2009.

Additional players on the Plastic Hearts album include Angel Olsen, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
